# Audience Surveys
Audience Surveys is one of the best places to find your blog post idea. You can get a new idea by asking your audience, in fact, you can check out your own blog comment section to check your audience’s replies. You can even check replies on your Twitter account, and listen when people talk. There are various social media channels where you can get new blog ideas from your niche audience.
On your social media account, you’ll receive several comments on your post, some questions might be easy to answer but some needs elaboration. Those kinds of questions can be your next post.
Another best way to get a blog idea is to ask your audience about which topic they are interested in or want to read more.
There are various ways to generate content ideas for your blog and in this, your audience can help you:
-
Ask your audience for your next blog post
Sometimes, businesses assume that they know what their online users want to hear or want to read. But it’s not true. Sometimes, you have to conduct the audience survey so that you can have an idea of what your audience wants to read in your next blog post. It is a tricky method to ask your audience what they want to read or in which concept they are interested.
You can create a rough list of topics and you can present it to your audience and collect their opinions by using one of these strategies:
- Ask them to vote for a specific topic as “yes” or “no”.
- Ask them to rank those topics in which they are interested.
- Ask them to choose their favourite 5 topics.
Remember one thing to include an option for “other” so that your audience can mention their favourite topic which you didn’t mention in your list. In this way, you can get help from your audience to generate new content ideas.
-
Check Blog comments to get an idea for your next blog post
When you discuss with any blogger that how you can get new content ideas for your blog, then their first suggestion will be to check your blog comments.
Whenever you write any blog that gets many comments, then you can review those comments to see the response, if it is a positive response, then see what about this blog inspires your community. You need to check:
- Do people care about this topic? If yes, then you can write more about this. You may even create a new category like those topics to make them more visible to your audience.
- Do people like your post format? Have you checked out an article or tool? If your audience liked your post format, then you can start creating similar posts.
-
Social media followers
You can start with the people who follow you on social media. You can visit their profiles to check what they are talking about. You can read through tweets, check their posts and check what brand they like the most.
Furthermore, if you have hundreds or even thousands of followers, then absolutely you’ll have a huge source of ideas. You can even post a question on your social media accounts to get various answers from your audience that what they like the most in your blog, or what they want to read on your blog post.
For example, you have a brand related to fashion, and you have a website where you write articles on new fashion trends. So, you can ask questions on your social media accounts to know what type of content they want to read on fashion.
Those answers will help you come up with new content ideas.

Well! Competitor Research is also a good method of finding a new and trending topic for your blog post. If something works well for your peers and competitors, then it might also work well for you. Do a little research to find new keywords your competitors rank for and check their top articles that are performing well in search engines.
Basically, the idea behind competitor research is to identify opportunities where you can find new keywords to create some unique content. The most important thing to ask is, could you more elaborate or expand the topic which is already written and could you improve it? Could you add an interesting concept or explain existing content with a different method?
Another suggestion here is, don’t forget to write your ideas in your spreadsheet so that after some time or when needed you can revisit and explore it further.
You can subscribe to your competitor’s email campaign to keep track of what is working and what’s not. Keep an eye on their landing pages, webinars, white-papers, e-books and even product description to take an idea of what there are doing well and what’s not so well. You never know when an idea comes up.
But remember one thing, while conducting competitor’s research don’t just copy and paste their ideas. Try to do some changes and improve it in your way so that your audience can get a unique blog post on your website.
Many of you especially those who are beginners will be unaware of how to conduct competitor research. That’s why I am going to explain how you can conduct competitor research in simple steps. Let’s get started!
-
Research their content that has been most shared
Research and review your competitor’s content that is most shared because it will help you to have an idea of the type of content they are producing, and you can also use those ideas in a different method to engage more audience.
-
Find the latest topic in your niche
To find most trending topics, try to answer the below questions:
1. Do certain topics generate a lot of shares for your competitors?
If a topic, for example, “on-page SEO” generates a lot of shares for your competitors, and then it will be a good idea to create some content that relates to that topic.
2. Do certain formats (e.g. videos) receive more shares than regular posts?
If a video on a particular topic is getting a lot of shares, then you might want to post your own video if you are planning to create content on the same topic.
Don’t repeat your competitor’s post, the basic idea behind competitors research is to get a better idea of trending topics, and format in your niche to perform better.
-
Find their best backlinks
To improve your site’s visibility in Google’s search results, then you should have relevant backlinks from high-authority sites. Hence, it is important to know what type of content is getting links for your competitors.
If you succeed in finding the best backlinks of your competitor’s website, then it can help you to identify trending topics, so that you can create new and fresh content around the same topic.
# Keyword Research
Before you start writing your content, make sure you have already conducted keyword research. If not, then first conduct proper keyword research because it will help you to better understand the needs of the customers and what they want to read. This will ensure that you are generating accurate and optimal content for your audience and presenting your message in front of your potential customers.
Now, I am going to tell you how you can discover the best keywords for your website:
-
Identify your target market
To identify optimal keywords, first, you need to know who is searching around your niche and who are your current customers?
Ultimately, you need to determine what your customers want, by considering their needs you should create your keywords list. This thing will help you to more focus on your content to attract your customers.
-
Keep track of what type questions customers ask
After determining your target audience, it’s time to know what questions customers are asking so that you can generate content as per their requirements. There are various tools available on the internet that can help you to determine questions asked by the users.
-
Explore trending content in your niche
In this step, you need to explore your competitor’s and leader’s website content. Determine what topics you should avoid and what topics you need to improve. Also, consider one important thing that how you can make your content stand out from the crowd. Basically, you need to find that content which can help you to engage more customers.
-
Make a list of keywords
After the research phase, you can build a list of keywords that can help you to start writing your content for a blog or website. Focus on long-tail keywords because long-tail keywords have less competition as compared to short keywords.
While making a list of keywords, consider different target markets, and ensure that you have made a list of keywords for each group. The longer the keyword list you have, the more content you can create.
-
Use the keyword research tool
Once you have created your keyword list, now you can use any keyword research tool to know more about keywords you’ve selected by uploading those keywords into any keyword research tool.
I’ll recommend you some keyword research tools so that you can use them to get more information about the keywords and get an innovative content idea for your blog. Some of the best keyword research tools are listed below:
-
-
- Google Trends
- Answer The Public
- Google Keyword Planner
- Ubersuggest and many more.
-
Let’s understand this topic by taking an example, here I am going to take “Ubersuggest” as my example to generate content ideas and keyword ideas as well.
Ubersuggest comes with a variety of features, some features I’ll explain here that would help you to find innovative content ideas for your next blog post. Let’s get started!
1. Enter a keyword into the search bar of the Ubersuggest:
2. After entering a keyword, next click on Keyword Ideas option from the left menu bar of the screen, and you’ll see a report that will look something like this:
Here, I’ve written a keyword “social media marketing”, and it shows me these results. You can simply choose a few keywords to start your next blog. Now, the next concern is your blog’s title or headline as you know it is so important for your blog because 8 out of 10 people most probably will read your headlines, but only 2 out of 10 will click through and read the entire post.
So, how you can create an impressive title or headline? How would you feel if someone gives you impressive and innovative titles for your blogs? Obviously, it will help you a lot, and it will reduce your time to find different headlines. Ubersuggest helps you to find headlines for your blog, and you just need to enter a keyword into Ubersuggest. It will look like this:
As I’ve entered the “social media marketing” keyword and it returns me a list of content ideas. Remember one thing, after entering a keyword, go to the left menu bar, and select Content Ideas option and it will return a list of different content ideas for your blog as shown above.
-
Choose a keyword and start writing around that keyword
After using any keyword research tool, you can now choose one or two keywords to start writing your content around those keywords. It is also helpful to consider SERPs of those keywords so that you can get a better understanding of what is already ranking and what content you are missing that you could create.
While writing your post, ensure that you are using keywords without sacrificing the readability of your post. Write content for your readers, not for web-crawlers.
# Google Trends
Google Trends is a keyword research tool that can help us in many ways. It can help you to find a new topic for your blog, and it shows the topics people are recently searched for. You can take help from it to know what is trending and in which topic people are interested.
Google Trends is easy to use, and you don’t even need to sign up for Google account to do searches. You can simply visit the Google Trends homepage and enter a search query to see the graph next to each title. For example, I would like to search “social media marketing”, look at the result:
Here, as you can see the graph is representing the scale from 0 to 100. When it shows 100, it is the moment in time when the entered term was most popular. Its popularity became low during November 24 – 30, 2019. You can also expand its search to the last five years to see more results.
Here, I am going to describe different ways to help you to come up with new content ideas for your WordPress blogs:
-
Determine seasonal trends
Basically, the idea behind determining seasonal trends is to publish your content when interest in a particular topic tends to spike. This will increase the popularity of your blog and help you to get a lot of traffic on your site.
Let’s take another example, suppose you have a website through which you offer digital marketing services, and now you want to publish content on “digital marketing”. Let’s see what will be the results:
Now, you can see when you should publish your content or on what time it is in popularity. However, there is another trick to know when your entered keyword will be on top or in trend, i.e. you can expand the range of your search, let’s say for five years:
Now, you can clearly see, people don’t want to think about this concept between November to December. You should publish your content whatever you’ve searched when there is a trend. Now, let’s sort all this:
- Spikes of interest can help you to know when you should publish related content.
- If there is a single spike that doesn’t mean there is a trend.
- You can verify potential trends by going back in time.
While searching for seasonal trends, all you need to have a keyword in your mind. If Google Trends shows you a graph representing it is not a time to publish searched content, and then choose its alternative option.
By default, Google trends will show you worldwide results, so if you want to find content to target a specific region of the world, then also you can do it to refine your results.
-
Identify how keywords perform in a particular region
Google Trends allows you to refine the searched results to specific countries. You can select countries that speak the English language. It is simple to do it, simply select the region from the drop-down. As I am going to take the same example of “digital marketing” and I have selected “The United States”. Now let’s check the results:
The idea behind choosing a region is that you can write content for your target audience. If the selected keyword doesn’t work well in the country you want to target, then you can choose an alternative keyword or topic.
-
Use relevant queries and topics to find new blog post ideas
In the previous sections, we were focusing on charts, but there is more data to look after that can help you. I am taking again a previous example of the “digital marketing” keyword. Now, you have already seen the graph after searching “digital marketing” keyword, now it’s time to scroll down to see more data. Let’s have a look:
“Related Topics” section represents what else your target audience search, except your keyword “digital marketing”. You can see its’ graph also if you want to see. However, if you want to do research on a particular keyword, you should look at the “Related queries” section. Let’s see what it represents when we search for “digital marketing” keyword:
The above results will come when you search for “digital marketing” related queries over the past five years. It is just an example, you can also check as per your requirements whether you want to see results over the past 12 months, or five years back results.
